More than 2,500 kids from across the nation attended Montgomery Swim Lessons on Saturday, and it was one of the biggest swimmers and kids in town.
The swimming lessons were held at the former U.S. Navy base, where the USS Constitution is based.
It’s been in the water since the mid-1940s, but the area was declared a National Marine Sanctuary by the U.N. in 2010, after a massive wave devastated the area in 1998.
It was reopened for recreational use in 2016.
Montgomery is located about 10 miles north of Houston and 15 miles west of Houston.
The National Park Service said it will continue to monitor the safety of the facility and the surrounding waters.
