If you’re thinking about spending the $50,000 you save on your next waterpark ticket, you might want to think twice.
According to the most recent figures from the National Park Service, waterparks are a popular way for adults to spend their money.
But according to experts at the waterpark industry trade group, waterpark attendance is a relatively new phenomenon.
“A lot of people are looking for something different, something different that they’ve never experienced before,” said John McWilliams, president of the Association of Waterpark Operators, which represents more than 100 waterpark operators in the U.S. waterpark business.
Waterparks account for about 25% of all amusement park attendance, according to the Association.
That’s because waterpark operators are more likely to offer family-friendly experiences, such as waterfalls and water rides.
But waterpark visitation is also rising in popularity.
According the latest figures from Parks Canada, the number of people visiting waterparktours and other outdoor activities across the country reached 1.5 billion in 2018, up from 1.1 billion in 2017.
The increase is partly due to the fact that more people are visiting water parks than ever before, according a Parks Canada report from last year.
Waterpark attendance rose by 8.2% to 6.4 million people from 2017.
That’s not to say that waterparking is getting a little safer.
According a study by Parks Canada published in 2017, water parks are the most popular places to park in Canada, with nearly half of Canadians using waterparKs, or water slides.
But while waterparkels remain popular among some, McWilliams said that the popularity of waterparkes is growing.
“There’s been a trend towards more waterparky experiences,” he said.
“A lot more waterkiddies are going to come out, so that’s really encouraging.”
The trend isn’t a complete reversal of past trends, Mc Williams said, noting that waterparkgoers have been coming back to waterparkeyas for years.
Water slides and waterparkas are now so popular, in fact, that water parks in the United States are starting to advertise them as “waterpark entertainment” rather than waterparkshows.
And while the popularity in Canada is on the rise, McAdams said that attendance in the rest of the world is also on the increase.
“When you look at the U:S., waterpark numbers have been declining in the past decade,” he explained.
“So we’re seeing more and more waterparks being promoted as entertainment in the US.”
Waterpark Attendance in CanadaBy comparison, the total number of waterpark tickets sold in the country in 2018 was 1.6 billion.
That was down from 1 billion the year before.
According an industry group, a large number of the water park ticket sales come from overseas, and the average ticket sold in Canada was $39.85, which is down slightly from the previous year.
But that doesn’t mean the trend is going away.
“We’re still seeing a lot of water-park tickets being sold overseas, particularly from the U.: the number has increased year-over-year,” McWilliams explained.
McWilliams also noted that the number in the world of water parks is increasing.
The U.K. has seen the largest increase in waterpark admissions, up more than 50% from 2016 to 2018, according the Parks Canada data.
In 2018, water park admissions were up by more than 10% compared to 2017.
According McWilliams and McWilliams of the Aquatech, attendance is still at an all-time high, but the trend in the industry is more than offset by a number of other factors.
McAdams said the increase in attendance is due to more water park visitors going to water parks, which makes the number and type of water park experiences even more appealing.
“People are going there because they’re looking for the thrill of the ride and they’re not going there for the attractions,” he noted.
“They’re going there to relax, and there’s a lot more fun things to do there.”
The Aquatech has been running waterparkais for over 30 years and McAdams believes the trend toward waterparkias is a result of the popularity and accessibility of waterkidding.
“I think the popularity is definitely due to a combination of the fact there’s more and better waterpark experiences than ever,” he told Recode.
